Oven-Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Let me start this off by saying, "My kids are weird!"  -Now, I mean that in the most loving way possible, but compared to other kids; well, they just are. Let me explain... My kids love to eat veggies! Especially, Brussels sprouts - or as my daughter likes to call them, baby cabbages. (See, just strange! It's a good strange, but odd none the less.)

We used to just nuke them in the microwave; with butter, salt, and pepper. We liked it just fine that way. That was, until our eyes were opened to the glorious flavor that is achieved through oven-roasting!

That's where this recipe comes in. Now, we didn't change up the seasoning a whole lot - or any, really (We are creatures of habit.), but the cooking method makes all the difference! I like this recipe, because you can still use the frozen Brussels sprouts. It is just so much easier to buy them that way, for us.

OK, so let's get cooking...

Printable Recipe
Ingredients:

  • 1 pound frozen Brussels Sprouts
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Parmesan Cheese (optional)

Method:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Melt the butter in separate bowl, or dish, with a pouring spout. Spread 1 tablespoon of the butter in the bottom and along the sides of a baking dish. Arrange Brussels in a single layer in the dish. Drizzle the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter over the Brussels. It will quickly cool and form a 'shell', because of the Brussels being frozen. That's okay. Season with salt and pepper. If your family is a bit more adventurous, feel free to also add Parmesan cheese, or any other seasonings that you like.

Bake in the preheated 375 degree oven for 30-40 minutes. Do not stir them while they're baking. They will only get a little brown on top. The really yummy brown crust comes from the bottom and sides of the dish.

Serves 3-4

Just beautiful - and they taste great!
They are a wonderful accompaniment to most any meal.
I hope your family enjoys these, as much as we do.
